Q: So, Christopher, when were you born?
A: I was born in 1451.
Q: How many voyages did you go on, when were they, and how long were they?
A: Wow, that's a lot of questions. Well, I was 42 when I made my first voyage to the "New world." It was August 3rd, 1492. It lasted for... about 224 days. We were in the new world for 94 days, and the purpose was to search for wealth and self-enrichment. The next voyage began September 25th, 1493. We arrived at Dominica in the Lesser Antilles. We came back to Spain June 11, 1496. The purpose of this voyage was colonization. The third voyage began May 30, 1498 and we arrived in Trinidad in Lesser Antilles. We arrived in Spain in November of 1500. On the fourth and final voyage, we left Spain May 11, 1502 and came back November 7, 1502.
Q: What were the reasons behind the voyages?
A: Well, part of it was to find a route to the Indies that would make trading between Spain and the Indies less time consuming.
Q: What was the other part?
A: I had authority to declare any lands that I stepped foot on belonging to Spain. I also had authority to aggressively search for gold and spices. These orders were given to me by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand.
Q: What do you believe these voyages did for Spain?
A: They opened doors for everyone, there was new land. It was really a great thing for anyone living at the time, there was a new area to conquer. I believe I gave people hope.
Q:Very inspiring Mr. Columbus, thank-you for your time.
A: I feel like that wasn't a question, but you're welcome.
